Stoneware clay, underglaze, glaze, electric fired 6" x 19" x 19"
This oversized bowl is part functional item and part statement piece. It began as a full 20 lb bag of clay rolled out through a slab roller and imprinted with a single very large Castor Bean leaf, chosen to max out but not exceed the dimensions of the kiln in which it would be fired. The best support to shape it while the clay dried turned out to be a spare tire. After the first firing, it was coloured with underglaze, coated overall with clear shiny glaze, and then fired again.
